14 East Magazine
as an illustrator for 14 East, I created weekly headers from an assigned article written by the staff.
my work also included putting the yearly anthology together, cover design for the Queer Issue, graphic lead for 14 East Live, and animation!
14 East Live
for the program, the editor wanted a collage feel for the cover with a minimalist interior that centered around the event's theme: memory.
i focused on the phrase "scraps of memory" and included imagery of torn paper that partly obscured other elements of the design that relate to the stories shared at this event.
i included a digital component and reformatted the brochure to function as a scrolling pdf via QR code. this design includes a blue side bar intended to reserve space for a thumb while the user is scrolling!
the Queer Issue
the Queer Issue for 14 East Magazine needed to walk the line of being fun while displaying a genuine understanding of the LGBTQ+ community.
often, members of the community feel under represented with the basic rainbow iconography. i wanted to draw out all the identities i could in a nonobtrusive way by having each flower represent a different sexual orientation or gender identity flag.
all the identities are still connected with the updated pride flag (which include black and brown and well as transgender representation). though the community is made of many different parts, or flowers, we are all still under one banner.
